These Warrior pendants are based on the shield design that decorates the Ardagh Chalice. Dating back to the 8th century B.C. it is recognized as THE most important piece of Celtic art found in Ireland.
A girdle of ten filigree panels of animal design, interlacing and shield decoration surrounds the neck of the chalice. The chalice is made of silver and decorated with 354 pieces of gold, brass, lead pewter, copper, gilt bronze and enamel beading. There are great examples of fine filigree gold work on this piece. It shows the extraordinary skill, craftsmanship and time that was devoted to making the chalice.
The Ardagh chalice is on permanent display in The National Museum of Ireland in Dublin.
