Description

MacMillan Cross.

MacMillan's Cross originally stood in the Chapel Cemetery at Kilmory Knap Chapel. Kilmory Knap Chapel is a 13th-century Christian chapel, located at the tiny hamlet of Kilmory, in Knapdale, Argyll and Bute, on the west coast of Scotland. The chapel is an important historical site of Clan Macmillan (of Knap). In the church is Macmillan's Cross, commissioned by Alexander MacMillan of Castle Sween in the late 15th century, a well-preserved piece of medieval carving. One of the cross faces bears the scene of the crucifixion, with the Virgin Mary on the left and St John on the right. A sword is placed vertically below, between two lengths of woven patterns, plaited in different ways. A huntsman stands above the words "hec est crux Alexandri Macmulen" - "this is Alexander MacMillan's cross".

From: Kilmory, Scotland

Dimensions: 13" x 5 1/2"

Due to the hand casting and proprietary staining process, each of my plaques is unique. Each cross comes with a hanger embedded in the stone. The cross comes with a descriptive tag describing the original stone, explanation of the design or information on where the cross is located.
